What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that involves inserting very thin needles through the skin at specific points on the body to stimulate natural healing and improve overall function of the body.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body with thin needles to promote the flow of energy and restore healing and balance to the body’s systems.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture uses very thin, hairlike and sterile needles that are almost unnoticeable and painless. There are places on the body where the skin is more thin, such as the feet so you may feel a light poke or pinch but that feeling goes away quite quickly.

Is acupuncture safe?

When performed by a licensed acupuncturist, acupuncture is safe and even relaxing. Acupuncturists use sterilized one-time use needles and follow strict protocols to ensure safety and comfort throughout the treatment.

What conditions can acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture is used to treat a variety of conditions, including chronic pain, headaches, anxiety, depression, infertility, digestive issues, and more.

If you have a specific questions regarding a condition, it is best to call prior to booking to speak to the acupuncturist.

What should I wear to my acupuncture appointment?

Depending on your acupuncture treatment, points may be chosen that are on your legs, arms, stomach etc. It is best to wear clothes that are loose fitted so that they can be pulled up without feeling constricted or tight on you. Sheets will be provided for cover but you can also bring shorts with you.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments needed depends on the individual and the condition being treated. Some people may experience immediate relief after one treatment, while others may require multiple treatments over a period of weeks or months.

What should I expect during an acupuncture treatment?

During acupuncture therapy, you will lie down on a comfortable table while the acupuncturist inserts needles at specific points on your body. You may feel a slight tingling or very slight dull ache after the insertion. After the needles are inserted, you will relax for 15-30 minutes before the needles are removed.

How long does the session last?

Every session is one hour. This includes the consultation prior to treatment, the time in with needles and the explanatory consultation after treatment.

Do you reuse needles?

Never. All needles are one time use needles only and are never reused. This is a health and safety factor that all Registered Acupuncturist must adhere to.

What should I do before and after an acupuncture treatment?

Before an acupuncture treatment, you should avoid eating a heavy meal and avoid caffeine and alcohol. After an acupuncture treatment, it is recommended to drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous activities for a few hours.

Is acupuncture covered by OHIP in Ontario?

Unfortunately, no, acupuncture is not currently covered by ohip in Ontario.

Is acupuncture covered by insurance or health benefits?

Yes, acupuncture that is provided by a registered Acupuncturist and TCM practitioner is covered by most insurances and health benefit plans. It is your responsibility to make sure your coverage includes it and how much is provided to you by your insurer. You will receive a receipt of the services after your session.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept all major credit cards, e-transfer or cash. If paying cash, please bring the exact amount as change cannot always be provided. A receipt will be sent to your email after payment is made.
